Department of Mechanical Engineering, Malaviya National Institute of
Technology Jaipur organized a three day International Conference on
Alternative Fuels for I. C. Engines (ICAFICE 2013) from 06 - 08 February,
2013 at Mini Auditorium Design Centre, MNIT Jaipur. The Conference was
inaugurated on 6th October, 2013 at 9:00 AM by Chief Guest Prof. R.
Natarajan, Former Director, IIT Madras and Former Chairman AICTE. Prof.
I. K. Bhat, Director, MNIT Jaipur was the Guest of Honour for the event.
Prof. Shyam Lal Soni, Mechanical Engg. Department and Prof. M. P. Poonia,
Director, NITTTR Chandigarh were the organizing Chairpersons of the event
and Dr. Dilip Sharma was the Convener of the conference.
The conference had been a great success with keynote talks by eminent
personalities in the field of energy like Prof. R Natarajan, Ex-Director, IITMadras,
Prof. Avinash Agrawal of IIT-Kanpur, Prof. L M Das of IIT-Delhi,
Prof. A Ramesh of IIT-Madras, Prof. V Ganesan of IIT-Madras, Prof. Y K
Vijay of Univ. of Rajasthan, Associate Prof. K A Subramaniam of IIT-Delhi,
etc. Prof. Natarajan shared his ideas towards sustainable development and
renewable energy. Our wisdom is enhanced by his ideas of 12 Es and 3 Rs of
sustainable development. Prof. Agrawal enriched our knowledge on optical
ignition of I.C. engines using laser beams with endoscopes right in the heart
of fire, i.e. the cylinder. Prof. Ganesan enhanced our wisdom on gaseous
fuels adding humor to his talk making the already heavy technical
environment light. Prof. L. M. Das and Prof. Vijay made us acquainted with
their on-going research on hydrogen as fuel and renewable energy usage for
We were successful in having couple of keynote addresses from people with
stupendous experience and success in industry, deeply involved in research
and development like Dr. D S Khatri, an ex-Maruti executive, Mr. B R
Shyam Prasad of Bosch. It was great to hear about many innovations and
current research in the field of gas injection from the horse's mouth, Dr.

The conference was divided in 9 technical sessions and we had 10 keynote
speakers, all with great repute and numerous awards in their area of work, as
mentioned before. We had a full house during most of the time with the
conference ending at around 6 pm on both the days before today. More than
150 people attended the conference, with more than 85 registrations. 70
technical papers are published in a good 500 pages proceeding with an ISBN
Number and more than 50 authors made the presentation of their research
findings to the august audience. Copy of proceeding was presented to each
registered guest, invited speakers and sponsors alongwith a folder displaying
the vibrant colors of Rajasthan and highlighting the Golden Jubilee
Celebrations of MNIT Jaipur of which this conference was a part.
Prof. I K Bhat, Director, MNIT informed the audience about MNIT, current
infrastructural facilities and his near future plans for this great institute.
Many keynote speakers took keen interest in visiting our labs and were
