Research
Along with teaching and academic research leading to doctoral degree, the Institute gives top priority to the research and development projects sponsored by outside national and international agencies and user organisations. Industrial consultancy is another significant area of activity of the Institute.
The Institute not only gives due emphasis to investigation of problems of direct relevance to the needs of the country through time-bound sponsored and consultancy projects aimed at solving live industrial problems but also focuses at the emerging areas like atmospheric sciences, laser applications, biotechnology, energy, transportation, microprocessor applications, computer sciences, optical communication, signal processing, computer aided design and manufacturing and artificial intelligence and robotics. The most recent ones include Bio-informatics, Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Nanotechnology, Real Time Embedded Systems and rural industrialization.
The nature and extent of the Industrial consultancy projects undertaken by the Institute is an index of its credibility with the industry and is symbolic of the relevance of a centre of excellence in the context of nations socio-economic development.
- The students of the Institute have excelled academically in examinations such as the Combined Engineering Services Exam and other similar competitive exams. Our students have regularly participated in various cultural and sports event both within and outside the Institute and have brought laurels to the Institute by winning various prizes.
- The faculty members are engaged in research and consultancy projects to the tune of roughly Rs. 3.5 crores. Details of ongoing research and consultancy projects are given in chapter 11.3. Research output of the faculty has increased significantly this year with some large number of papers having presented at various conferences/symposia/seminars and published in National and International Journals.

Supervision of doctoral and M.Tech. theses is an integral part of the Institute curricula. There has been substantial increase in research activity in the Institute.
